More detached houses - less flats

506 more detached houses were started during the first three quarters of 2005 than in the same period in 2004 - an increase of 9.2 per cent. The corresponding figure for flats in blocks shows a decrease of 13.9 per cent.

The total number of started dwellings so far this year is about the same as last year - with a decrease by only 0.4 per cent. The building of dwellings in semi-detached houses, row houses and other small houses increased by 31.2 per cent compared to the nine first months last year.

Increase for industrial buildings

3 032 000 square meters utility floor space for other purpose than dwellings were recorded started during the first three quarters of the year - an increase of 5.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2004. 70 per cent of this floorage was for industrial buildings, which increased by 6.2 per cent compared to the first three quarters last year. Started utility floor space for holiday houses also increased this period - up 35 000 square meters, or 11.4 per cent.

Delayed recording of non-residential building

Building of the university hospital in Akershus started in February 2004, but was not recorded until 1.5 years later. Due to the size of the building, 117 400 square meters of utility floor space, Statistics Norway chose to revise the quarterly figures for building permits and started utility floor space for other than dwellings for the first quarter of 2004.

Deviation from the monthly building statistics

The figures that are presented in the monthly building statistics is preliminary, and the sum of the three months in a quarter can deviate from the quarterly building statistics. This is because there may be corrections in the GAB-register and because buildings that are registered in the quarter have not been recorded in the preliminary monthly building statistics.
