More non-residential buildings
During the first nine months of 2005 there was a 2.5 per cent increase in square metres of utility floor space started for non-residential buildings compared with the same period last year.
The growth has been particularly large for buildings in the hotel and restaurant business, which has more than tripled compared to the first nine months last year. Buildings for transport and communication increased by 46 per cent compared to same period last year.
Delayed recording of non-residential building
Building of the university hospital in Akershus started in February 2004, but was not recorded until 1.5 years later. Due to the size of the building, 117 400 square meters of utility floor space, Statistics Norway chose to revise the monthly figures for started utility floor space for other than dwellings for February 2004. The revision also includes the figures for buildings under construction back to February 2004.
Less new dwellings
Almost 20 000 dwellings were started from January to September this year - a decrease of 3.2 per cent compared to same period last year. However, the dwellings are larger - started utility floor space for dwellings have increased by 2.4 per cent this period compared to last year.
