Increase in new holiday houses

130 000 square metres of utility floor space for holiday houses were started in Norway in the second quarter of 2005 - an increase of 31 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2004.

In the first half of 2005 there has been a 20 per cent increase in utility floor space of holiday houses compared with the same period last year.

The number of new dwelling starts came to 14 604 in the first half of the year - an increase of 5 per cent compared with the first six months last year. The largest increase was recorded for small houses with two or more dwellings and row houses, which increased by 41 per cent. Detached houses had an increase of 10 per cent, while multi-dwelling buildings had a decrease of 5 per cent.

A total of 1 780 000 square metres of utility floor space for dwellings were started in the first half of 2005 - up 9 per cent since the first half of 2004.

For industrial buildings, 1 388 000 square metres of utility floor space were started in the first six months of the year - an increase of 4 per cent compared with same period last year.

Deviation from the monthly building statistics

The figures presented in the monthly building statistics are preliminary, and the sum of the three months in a quarter can deviate from the quarterly building statistics. This is because there may be corrections in the GAB register and because buildings that are registered in the quarter have not been recorded in the preliminary monthly building statistics.
