More new dwellings

7 281 dwelling starts are recorded started in Norway during the first quarter of 2005 registered - an increase of 24.1 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter last year. Most of the increase is due to increased building of detached houses, houses with two dwellings and row houses.

For houses with two dwellings and row houses 2 241 dwellings were recorded started in the first quarter of 2005 - almost 66 per cent more compared with the corresponding quarter in 2004. The number of detached houses started is 16.5 per cent above the level in the first quarter of 2004.

The building of new dwellings in blocks amounted to 2 768 in the first quarter of 2005, and is almost on the same level as in the same period in 2004.

Strong increase in Bergen

Of the largest cities in Norway the strongest increase in new dwellings in the first quarter of 2005 was recorded in Bergen, where 359 more dwellings were started compared with the same period last year. In Oslo and Stavanger the number of dwelling starts was almost unchanged, and in Trondheim there was a decrease by 24 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter last year.

More new industrial buildings

In the first quarter this year building of 751 000 square meters utility floor space for industrial purposes were started. This is an increase by 14.5 per cent compared with the first quarter last year.

Deviation from the monthly building statistics

The figures that are presented in the monthly building statistics is preliminary, and the sum of the three months in a quarter can deviate from the quarterly building statistics. This is because there may be corrections in the GAB-register and because buildings that are registered in the quarter have not been recorded in the preliminary monthly building statistics.
