More new dwellings

In October 2003 building of 2 671 new dwellings were recorded - an increase of 30 per cent compared with October last year. So far this year 18 645 new dwellings were started, an increase of almost 1 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.

The dwellings that were started in October have a utility floor space of 318 000 square meters. Compared with October last year this is an increase of 17 per cent. From January to October there is, however, a decrease in started utility floor space by almost 4 per cent compared with last year.

Increased floor space for industry buildings

For other buildings than dwellings, started utility floor space increased by 44 per cent in October this year compared with October last year. During the ten first months 2003 started utility floor space decreased by 8 per cent compared with the same period last year.

During the ten first months of the year 2,8 million square meters utility floor space were started for other purposes than dwellings. Of these, 2 millions were for industrial purposes. This is almost 7 per cent less than last year. The largest increase was recorded for hotels and restaurants by 27 per cent compared to the ten first months last year.

The recoreding of non-residential buildings in the municipality of Oslo was imperfect for the years 2001, 2002 and the beginning of 2003, subsequently the figures for Oslo so far this year are lower than the actual situation.
