Decrease for holiday houses

During the 3rd quarter this year 90 000 square meters of utility floor space for holiday houses were started. This is a decrease by 26 per cent compared to the same period last year. So far this year, the decrease is 17 per cent compared to the three first quarters of last year.

During the 3rd quarter this year, there were started 707 000 square meters utility floor space for dwelling purposes. This is a decrease by 5 per cent compared to the same period last year. The floor space is distributed on 5 416 dwellings. There has been a decrease by 25 per cent in the number of new detached houses compared to the same period last year. The number of started flats has increased by 17 per cent compared to 3r d quarter last year.

Less industrial buildings

From January to September this year building of 623 000 square meters utility floor space for industrial purposes were started. This is a decrease by 6 per cent compared to 3r d quarter last year. Started floor space utility for education, public entertainment and religious activities increased by 23 per cent.

More new dwellings than in Sweden

Almost 16 400 dwellings were started in Norway as a total for the three first quarters this year. At the same time 15 000 dwellings were started in Sweden. The number of started dwellings per 1 000 inhabitants is 3.6 for Norway and 1.7 for Sweden.

The registration of non-residential buildings in the municipality of Oslo was imperfect for the years 2001, 2002 and the beginning of 2003. Subsequently the figures for Oslo so far this year are lower than the actual situation.
