Less building starts for detached houses

3 498 detached houses were started during the first half this year, 14 per cent less than during the first half of 2002.

The number of semi-detached houses also decreased. From the 1s t half last year to the 1s t half this year, the number of dwellings in semi-detached houses decreased by 21 per cent. On the other hand, the number of dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings increased by 35 per cent since last year.

Building of holiday houses is lower than the two previous years. During the first half of this year 155,000 square metres of holiday houses were started, 11 per cent less than last year.

During the second quarter this year 5 026 dwellings were started, with a total of 671,000 square metres.

Decrease for non-residential buildings

1,115,000 square metres were started in non-residential buildings during the first half of 2003, 18 per cent less than during the corresponding period last year.

During the 2n d quarter of this year 464,000 square metres of utility floor space were started in non-residential buildings, a decrease of 14 per cent compared with the same period last year. There has been a slight decrease for all types of buildings except industrial buildings and warehouses and prisons etc. Industrial buildings and warehouses had a slight decrease in the first quarter, but were at the same level as the corresponding quarter last year in the 2n d quarter.

The registration of non-residential buildings in the municipality of Oslo was imperfect for the years 2001, 2002 and the beginning of 2003, subsequently the figures for Oslo so far this year are lower than the actual situation.
