Lower building activity in 2002

The final figures from Statistics Norway's building statistics show 22 980 dwelling starts in 2002, 9 per cent less than in 2001. 8 418 dwellings were started in detached houses, and 7 267 dwellings were started in multi-dwelling buildings.

Rogaland and Akershus had most dwelling starts with 3 002 and 2 552 dwellings respectively. In Oslo 2 154 dwellings were started, 1 319 of these are in multi-dwelling buildings.

6 768 000 square metres of utility floor space were started in 2002 - 3 044 000 of these are for residential buildings and 1 017 000 for holiday houses, residential garages etc.

2 735 000 square metres in non-residential buildings

In 2002 there were 2 735 000 square metres of utility floor space started in non-residential buildings. Most building starts were in industrial buildings and warehouses with 754 000 square metres.
