Decrease in dwelling starts

The number of dwellings started during the first ten months of 2002 decreased by 12 per cent from the corresponding period of 2001, to 18 542 dwellings.

The strongest decrease was in Akershus with 35 per cent less dwellings. 2 110 dwellings were started in Akershus during the period of January to October. The number of dwellings starts also decreased a lot in Telemark and Nordland, with 30 and 29 per cent less dwellings respectively.

In Rogaland dwelling starts increased by 15 per cent.

Decrease for non-residential buildings

During the period of January to October 2002, 3 025 000 square metres of utility floor space were started in non-residential buildings, 3 per cent less than the corresponding period the year before. Floor space started for real estate, renting and business estate activities decreased by 47 per cent to 131 300 square metres. Hotels and restaurants and transport, storage and communication had a decrease of 44 per cent in floor space started.

58 900 and 55 900 square metres respectively.
