Decrease in building of new flats

4 794 dwellings were started in multi-dwelling buildings during the first three quarters 2002, a decrease of 15 per cent compared with the same period last year.

There were 14 per cent less dwellings started in undetached houses, linked house and house with 3 or 4 dwellings during the first three quarters of this year compared with the corresponding period last year. In detached houses 6 387 dwellings were started, 8 per cent less than last year.

Increased building of holiday houses

So far this year 296 000 square meters of utility floor space were started for holiday houses, 9 per cent more than last year.

Utility floor space started in non-residential buildings except from holiday houses and garages decreased by 3 per cent since last year. Floor space started in transport and communication buildings decreased the most, from 125 000 square meters to 65 000 square meters. Utility floor space started in buildings used for education, public entertainment and religious activities decreased by 15 per cent.

Started utility floor space in agricultural and fishery buildings increased by 18 per cent.
