Dwelling starts down 14 per cent

During the first eight months this year 14 062 dwellings were started. This is 14 per cent less than during the corresponding period in 2001.

Number of dwellings started. Unadjusted and trend. January 1990-August 2002.

The number of dwelling starts decreased the most in the counties of Sogn og Fjordane and Telemark, both with 37 per cent decrease. The county of Østfold had the largest increase with 19 per cent more dwelling starts.

Utility floor space started in residential buildings during the period January to August decreased by 13 per cent since last year.

Small decrease in non-residential buildings

Utility floor space started in non-residential buildings so far this year decreased by 1 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. 2 348 900 square metres were started in non-residential buildings during the first eight months this year. Utility floor space started for real estate, renting and business estate activities decreased by 42 per cent. The highest increase was for "Public administration and defence compulsory social security" with 109 per cent more utility floor space started.
