Decrease for most building types

Row house, linked house and house with 3 or 4 dwellings had 1 475 dwelling starts during the first half of this year, a decrease of 20 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.

There are 4 074 dwelling starts in detached houses during the first half of this year, a decrease of 11 per cent since the first half of last year. The number of starts in multi-dwelling buildings is down 13 per cent to 3 184 dwellings. While the number of dwellings starts in most building types decreased, the number of dwelling starts in residence for communities increased by 39 per cent, to 917 dwellings.

In non-residential buildings 1 358 000 square meters of utility floor space are started. The two building types industrial building and warehouse, and office and business building each had an increase in floor space starts of 17 per cent.
