11 per cent decrease in dwelling starts

The number of dwellings starts decreased by 11 per cent the first half of this year. From January to June this year, 10 977 dwellings were started compared with 12 328 in the same period of 2001.

The number of dwelling starts is still 5 per cent higher than in 2000, despite the decrease of 11 per cent from 2001.

In Akershus the number of dwelling starts fell from a high level of 1 931 starts in the first half of 2001, to 1 314 starts in the same period of 2002. Rogaland, Hedmark and Nord-Trøndelag experienced an increase of 192, 181 and 112 dwelling starts respectively.

2 per cent decrease for non-residential buildings

During the first half of this year 1 771 000 m2 of utility floor space was started in non-residential buildings. This is a 2 per cent decrease compared with the 1 802 000 m2 started during the same period last year.
