Decrease in dwelling starts
The number of dwelling starts decreased by 11 per cent the first five months this year. From January to May this year, 9094 dwellings were started compared with 10 195 in the same period of 2001.
The number of dwelling starts is still nearly 5 per cent higher than in 2000, despite the decrease of 11 per cent from 2001.
In Oslo and Akershus the number of dwelling starts fell by 25 per cent, from a high level of 2 573 starts in the first five months of 2001, to 1 930 starts in the same period of 2002.
4 per cent increase for non-residential buildings
From January to May this year 1 500 000 m2 of utility floor space was started in non-residential buildings. This is a 4 per cent increase compared with the 1 445 000 m2 started during the same period last year.
