A downturn in dwelling starts

After a long period of increase in the number of dwelling starts, the trend turned down last autumn.

Number of dwellings started. Unadjusted and trend. January 1990-December 2001

25 089 dwellings were started during 2001. This is a 6.9 per cent increase compared with 2000, and the highest level of dwelling starts since 1989. The number of dwelling starts was nearly doubled in Oslo last year, compared with 2000.

Less non-residential buildings

The total area of non-residential utility floor space started in 2001 was falling moderately compared with 2000. The registration of non-residential buildings in Oslo was incomplete last year. Due to this the figures for non-residential buildings of 2001 for Oslo are too low.

Started non-residential utility floor space. Unadjusted and trend. January 1990-December 2001
