Dwelling starts increase

23 452 dwellings were started during the eleven first months of 2001. This is a 10 per cent increase compared with the same period of 2000.

2 626 dwellings are started in Oslo during the first 11 months of 2001, 1 186 more than in the first 11 months of 2000. Rogaland, Buskerud and Nord-Trøndelag each have a decline of 232, 212 and 185 dwellings, respectively.

For residential buildings, 3 163 400 m2 of utility floor space were started during the first 11 months of 2001, 5 per cent more than the first 11 months of 2000.

Less non-residential buildings

In non-residential buildings, 3 468 600 m2 of utility floor space were started in the first 11 months of 2001, this is less floor space than the year before which had 3 596 700 m2.

Registration of non-residential buildings in Oslo is still incomplete. The rest of Norway had more than 1 per cent decline in utility floor space started for non-residential buildings. Except from Oslo, construction starts of non-residential utility floor space declined the most in Nordland, Sør-Trøndelag and Buskerud, with 35, 25 and 20 per cent.
