More new holiday houses

During the first 3 quarters of 2001 Norway have 272 000 m2 of utility floor space started for holiday houses, 14 per cent more than in the same period last year.

Utility floor space started for hospitals and institutional care buildings increased, from 142 000 m2 the first three quarters last year, to 211 000 m2 this year. For office and business buildings, utility floor space started, decreased from 621 000 m2 to 499 000 m2.

More new apartments, less new detached houses

During the first three quarters this year 18 938 dwellings were started. Of these, 6 918 were in detached houses. Last year there were fewer dwelling starts in the same period, 16 494. Among these housings, 7 396 were in detached houses.

In the same period this year 5 613 apartment starts are in multi-dwelling buildings, an increase of 60 per cent from last year. The number of dwellings for communities increased from 749 to 1 349.
