Dwelling starts increase by 14 per cent

From January to September this year the number of dwelling starts increased by 14 per cent. During the first nine months this year 18 843 dwellings have been started. Of these, 2 472 were started in September.

Akershus is a county with high building activity. 483 of the dwelling starts in September was situated in this county, and 3 011 dwellings were started there during the period of January to September. Oslo and Østfold are two counties with a high increase in building activity this year. The number of dwelling starts from January to September increased by 83 per cent in Oslo.

During the first nine months of 2001, 5 296 thousand square metres of utility floor space have been started. Almost half of this floor space is for residential purpose.

3 per cent increase for non-residential buildings

Non-residential building starts from January to September this year gives 2 756 600 square metres of utility floor space, 3 per cent more than in the same period last year.
