Increase in dwelling starts

Together Oslo and Akershus had 4 289 dwelling starts the first eight months this year - 47 per cent more in the first eight months last year. In the other regions of Norway 12 082 new dwelling starts were registered from January to August - 11 per cent more than in 2000.

Utility floor space in dwellings started in Norway the first eight months of this year is 2 201 000 square metres. This is 11 per cent more than the first eight months last year.

1 per cent increases for other building starts

August experienced a decrease in non-residential floor space started. The total area of non-residential utility floor space started the first eight months this year is 2 381 200, which is 1 per cent more than for the same period last year.

Building starts for holiday properties, private garages and other non-industrial activities have in the period January to August increased from 549 700 square metres last year to 632 000 square metres this year.

Buildings for real estate management, renting and business activities have experienced a decrease in building starts for the period January to August, from 227 000 square metres last year to 194 000 square metres this year. Utility floor space started for other community, social and personal service activities is down at74 100 square metres from 94 300 last year.
