More dwellings for students in Oslo

The number of dwellings started is still rising. The first seven months of this year there has been an increase in dwelling houses started of 21 per cent compared with the same period last year. In Oslo alone the increase was 89 per cent. Some of these are student residences.

From January to July 2001 14 211 dwellings have been started. That is up from 11 785 dwelling starts in the same period last year, i.e. an increase of 21 per cent. In Akershus there has been 2 139 dwellings started, and Oslo had 1 623, which is up from 857 dwellings started from January to July last year. 344 of the dwelling starts in July 2001 are for students in Oslo.

Utility floor space in dwellings started the first seven months of this year is 1 918 000 square metres. This is 13 per cent more than a year ago. Total floor space started these months is four million square metres.

More than 3 per cent more non-residential buildings

In the beginning of this year the utility floor space of non-residential buildings started experienced a decrease. However, during June and July the trend has changed and now there is a small rise.

From January to July this year, 2 081 800 m2 of non-residential utility floor space has been started, an increase of more than 3 per cent from last year.
