Increase in dwelling starts

18 per cent more dwelling houses are started the first half of this year. Akershus had the highest number, with 1 931 dwelling starts. For non-residential utility floor space started, the increase is 3 per cent, which is quite low.

Statistics Norway's building statistics show 12 328 dwelling starts from January to June 2001. This is an increase of 18 per cent compared to the same period in 2000. In Akershus there were 1 931 dwelling starts. Seasonally adjusted monthly series show 17 per cent increase in dwelling starts from May to June 2001.

Low rise for non-residential buildings

From January to June this year, 1 802 00 m2 of non-residential utility floor space were started, an increase of 3 per cent compared to the same period of 2000.

Construction starts of hotels and restaurants, education and health- and social services buildings increased by 59, 67 and 73 per cent in the 6 first months of 2001 compared to the same period previous year. Utility floor space of manufacturing and wholesale and retail trade decreased by 18 and 5 per cent.

At the beginning of this year numbers showed a decrease of non-residential utility floor space started. June had a strong increase this year compared to June last year, thus the total of this year increased.
