30 per cent more new dwellings in Oslo and Akershus

Statistics Norway's monthly building statistics show 2 111 dwelling starts in Oslo and Akershus from January to April 2001. This is an increase of 30 per cent compared to the same period in 2000.

In the whole country it was an increase of 16,5 per cent in the number of dwelling starts between January April 2000 and the first 4 months of 2001. The number of dwelling starts rose by nearly 50 per cent in April 2001 compared with a relatively low level in April 2000. Seasonally adjusted monthly series show a small decrease in dwelling starts from March to April 2001.

Non-residential buildings

From January to April 2001, 1 230 200 m2 of non-residential utility floor space were started, a decrease of 1,5 per cent compared to the same period of 2000. Construction starts of leisure activity building area and residential garage area, which represents 20 per cent of non-residential building area, increased by 15 per cent in the first 4 months of 2001 compared to the same period of the previous year.
