High activity in construction

The activity in the construction industry is flattening off at a high level after experiencing a strong increase in the two previous quarters.

Construction, production index. Seasonally adjusted. 1st quarter 2000-2nd quarter 2012

The total production in the construction industry increased by 0.6 per cent in the 2nd quarter of 2012, adjusted for seasonal variations. Compared to the 2nd quarter last year, the production has increased by 8.5 per cent according to working day adjusted figures.

The positive development in the construction industry is due to a record high activity in the civil engineering works. Compared to the 2nd quarter last year, production in this sector has increased by 17.0 per cent according to working day adjusted figures.

In the building sector, production decreased by 1.1 per cent from the 1st quarter to the 2nd quarter this year. Working day adjusted figures indicate a growth of 5.7 per cent from the 2nd quarter last year.
