Moderate decrease in construction activity

The production in the construction industry decreased by 1.8 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010, according to the seasonally-adjusted figures.

Errors in index figures (13.05.2011)

In a quality review of the production index, construction, errors in the calculation were revealed. As a consequence, the index figures dating back to the first quarter of 2008 have been revised. Text and figures in this article are not revised.

The declining trend in production of new buildings continues in the first quarter this year. At the same time the growth in renovation of buildings flattens out after two years of strong growth in the renovation activity. The total building activity decreased by 1.3 per cent from the preceding quarter and by 2.3 per cent from the corresponding quarter last year.

Civil engineering works decreased by 1.6 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010. Compared with the same period last year, seasonally-adjusted figures show a decline in civil engineering output of 2.4 per cent.

The index figures for 2009 are revised.
