Construction fell by 4.6 per cent
On average, the production in construction was 4.6 per cent lower in 2009 than in 2008. Seasonally-adjusted figures show a higher decrease at the beginning of 2009 than at the end of the year.
Errors in index figures (13.05.2011)In a quality review of the production index, construction, errors in the calculation were revealed. As a consequence, the index figures dating back to the first quarter of 2008 have been revised. Text and figures in this article are not revised. For the building industry, there was a decrease in production of 3.7 per cent for the year as a whole compared to 2008. The development in production of new buildings and production in renovation differed. On average, the production of new buildings was 13.9 per cent lower in 2009 than in 2008, and is approximately at the same level as in 2005. The activity within renovation has on the contrary increased for the second year in a row, and is 9.6 per cent higher in 2009 compared to 2008.
Civil engineering works
In 2009, the production within civil engineering works was 7.7 per cent lower than the level in 2008. This is the first year since 2001 with a negative growth for the year. Seasonally-adjusted figures, however, indicate a small increase of 1.7 per cent in civil engineering works from the third to the fourth quarter of 2009.
