Continued fall in construction

The production in construction was 1.8 [corrected 03.06.2009] per cent lower in the first quarter of 2009 compared with the fourth quarter in 2008, according to seasonally adjusted figures. The fall is due to lower activity in the construction of new buildings.

Errors in index figures (13.05.2011)

In a quality review of the production index, construction, errors in the calculation were revealed. As a consequence, the index figures dating back to the first quarter of 2008 have been revised. Text and figures in this article are not revised.

New revised figures for the whole period are available in the Statbank . New figures are also available in the last published article.

The total construction activity was 0.1 per cent lower in the first quarter of 2009 than in the same quarter of the previous year. Production of new buildings went down by 12.5 per cent, while renovation of buildings (improvement, rebuilding, repair and maintenance) increased by 19.3 per cent in the same period.

The seasonally adjusted figures show a fall for total construction activity of 3.1 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2008 to the first of 2009.
