Continued increase in construction

The construction activity in Norway increased by 6.3 per cent in the second quarter this year compared with the second quarter in 2006.

Adjusted for seasonal variations the total production in construction increased by 0.1 per cent from the first to the second quarter in 2007.

The strongest increase is recorded in civil engineering works, where the production is 9.4 per cent higher in the second quarter of 2007, compared with the second quarter last year. The seasonally adjusted figures for the civil engineering sector shows however a decrease in production by 1.4 per cent from the first to the second quarter this year.

More new buildings

Driven by a strong growth in the production of new buildings, the total building activity increased by 5.6 per cent from the second quarter last year. The production of new buildings increased by 9.3 per cent in this period.

The production within repair, maintenance and improvement of buildings increased on the other hand with only 0.6 per cent compared with the second quarter in 2006. Adjusted for seasonal variations the total building activity increased by 1.0 per cent the last quarter.
