Continued increase in construction

The construction activity in Norway increased by 6.8 per cent in the first quarter this year compared with the first quarter in 2006. Adjusted for seasonal variations the production increased by 4.4 per cent from the fourth quarter last year to the first quarter in 2007.

The strongest increase is recorded in civil engineering works, where the production is 12.6 per cent higher in the first quarter of 2007 compared with the first quarter last year.

Driven by a strong growth in production of new buildings, the total building activity increased by 5.3 per cent from the first quarter last year to the first quarter this year. The production of new buildings increased by 11.6 per cent in this period. The production within repair, maintenance and improvement of buildings decreased by 2.3 per cent compared with the first quarter in 2006.
