Building activity flattening off

Seasonally adjusted figures show that the total production of buildings was 0.1 per cent lower in the third quarter compared with the second quarter this year. This indicates that the growth in building activity is flattening off on a record high level.

Compared with the third quarter last year, the building activity was 5.1 per cent higher in the third quarter this year, and it was the production of new buildings that increased the most. This part of the building activity was 7.5 per cent higher in the third quarter this year compared with the corresponding period last year. In this year’s third quarter, the repair, maintenance and improvement of buildings went up 2.2 per cent from July, August and September last year.

Growth in civil engineering works

Compared with the corresponding period last year, the production in civil engineering works increased by 2.5 per cent in the third quarter this year. Adjusted for seasonal variations, the production level went up 1.8per cent from the second to the third quarter of 2006.

The total production in the construction industry was 4.6 per cent higher in the third quarter of 2006 compared with the third quarter in 2005.
