Record high building activity

The production of new buildings increased by 7.5 per cent from the second quarter in 2005 to the second quarter in 2006, even if Easter 2006 was in the second quarter and last year in the first one. The repair, maintenance and improvement of buildings decreased by 2.6 per cent.

The building activity totally increased by 2.7 per cent compared with the second quarter in 2005. Adjusted for seasonal variations, the productions of building increased by 0.9 per cent from the first to the second quarter this year.

Also high activity in civil engineering works

In spite of more working-days in the second quarter last year, the production in civil engineering works was almost unchanged in the second quarter compared with the corresponding period last year.

Adjusted for seasonal variations the production in civil engineering works increased by 3.5 per cent from the firsts to the second quarter this year.

The total production in the construction industry is 2.2 per cent higher compared with the second quarter in 2005.
