Continued increase in construction

The construction activity in Norway increased by 7.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2005 compared with the corresponding quarter last year.

Adjusted for seasonal variations, the production index increased by 1.4 per cent from the second to the third quarter of 2005.

More new buildings, less renovation

The production of new buildings was 16.9 per cent higher in the third quarter 2005 compared with the third quarter last year. For renovation (repair, maintenance and improvement of buildings) the production declined by 2.7 per cent in the same period.

From the third quarter of 2004 to the third quarter this year the total production of buildings increased by 7.7 per cent.

Civil engineering works

High activity levels were also recorded in civil engineering works with an increase in production of 8.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2005 compared with the corresponding quarter in 2004.
