Building activity up 8.6 per cent

The production of new buildings increased by 16.4 per cent from the first quarter in 2004 to the first quarter in 2005, even if Easter 2005 was in the first quarter and last year in the second one. The repair, maintenance and improvement of buildings decreased by 0.2 per cent.

The building activity increased totally by 8.6 per cent compared with the first quarter in 2004. Adjusted for seasonal variations, the productions of building increased by 2.8 per cent from the fourth quarter in 2004 to the first quarter in 2005.

The production in civil engineering works is unchanged in the first quarter of 2005 compared with the first quarter of 2004 in spite of the fact that the Easter was in different quarters. Adjusted for seasonal variations the productions is on the same high level as in the fourth quarter of 2004.

The total production in the construction industry is 6.8 per cent higher compared with the first quarter in 2004.
