4.1 per cent growth in construction industry

Turnover in the construction industry increased by 4.1 per cent from 2002 to 2003. The total construction turnover for 2003 was NOK 160.6 billion- an increase of NOK 6.3 billion compared with the year before.

From January 2003, the state road construction activity is sorted out as a state-owned enterprise called Mesta Ltd, and this turnover is included in our figures from 2003. Mesta Ltd is established in the group "building of complete constructions or parts thereof; civil engineering", and this group increased by 7.4 per cent from 2002 to 2003. The "renting of construction or demolition equipment with operator" group declined 12.1 per cent in turnover in the same period.

All turnovers in this connection exclude VAT.

County

The turnover of construction companies in Finnmark went up by 41 per cent from 2002 to 2003. Mesta Ltd is localized in Nordland, Akershus and Hordaland. In these counties, the turnover increased by 25.5, 23.5 and 9.8 per cent respectively in the same period.

Growth in the 6t h period 2003

The total construction turnover for the 6t h period (November and December) was NOK 32.8 billion - an increase of 2.5 per cent compared with the same period the year before.
