Turnover decline in construction industry

Turnover in the construction industry went down by 2.0 per cent in the 4th period (July and August) 2002 compared with the 4th period 2001.

The total construction turnover for the 4th period 2002 was NOK 21.8 billion, a decline of NOK 434 million compared with the corresponding period of 2001. However, in the period of January to August 2002, turnover increased by 5.3 per cent, or NOK 4 499 million, compared with the same period of 2001.

Establishments in the building installation group saw a 6.9 per cent, or NOK 416 million, decline in turnover for the 4th period 2002 compared with the 4th period 2001. Growth in the site preparation was 4.8 per cent in the same period.

The total construction turnover for the first eight months of 2002 was NOK 89 billion. Growth in the site preparation and renting of construction or demolition equipment with operator was 10.0 and 8.7 per cent respectively in this period.

All turnover in this connection excludes VAT.

Biggest increase in Sogn og Fjordane

The turnover of construction companies in Sogn og Fjordane went down by 10.7 per cent or NOK 45 million in the 4th period 2002 compared with the 4th period 2001. The turnover of companies in Sør-Trøndelag went up by 9.7 per cent.

In the period of January to August 2002 the turnover of construction companies in Sogn og Fjordane, Telemark and Troms went down by 2.9, 2.7 and 0.8 per cent respectively, compared with the same period 2001. Finnmark and Vest-Agder had the highest increase with 16.1 and 13.5 per cent respectively in the same period.
