In May 2016, the statistics for Securities registered with the Norwegian Central Securities Depository were merged with the Debt securities statistics. The new merged statistics are known as the Securities statistics.

 

The introduction of a new sector standard has caused the old tables to stop being updated. New tables have been added that include time series from the first quarter of 2012 and onwards.

Share dividends at a historically high level

Owners of companies registered with the Norwegian Central Securities Depository received large amounts of share dividends in the 2nd quarter of 2008. The values of the stock of shares increased by 7.5 per cent, and brought back half of the share values lost in the 1st quarter.

Based on the payments of NOK 68.7 billion of share dividend registered in the second quarter, 2008 as a whole will reach the highest level of dividend payments ever registered.

State enterprises and other private non-financial companies paid out NOK 33.1 billion and NOK 22.8 billion respectively. Nearly 40 per cent of the share dividends were received by Central government, and nearly 30 per cent went to foreign share owners.

Measured in market value, the share values registered with the Norwegian Central Securities Depository, increased by NOK 165 billion in the second quarter of 2008, and amounted to NOK 2339 billion. The main reason for this growth was higher share prices on the Oslo Stock Exchange. State enterprises increased their share values by NOK 117 billion during the second quarter while other financial companies reduced their share values with NOK 19 billion. The shares values are, by the end of the quarter, divided into NOK 1936.2 billion in quoted shares and NOK 402.8 billion in unquoted shares. Foreigners now own 37.6 per cent of the share values registered in the Norwegian Central Securities Depository, which is the same level of ownership registered at the end of the first quarter of 2008.

Stocks of interest bearing securities registered with the Norwegian Central Securities Depository increased in the second quarter of 2008. The stock of bonds increased by 4.0 per cent, to NOK 826.7 billion, and the stock of short-term securities increased by 4.4 per cent, to NOK 134.0 billion.
