Although investors net sold, share capital went up

The total share capital of Norwegian mutual funds went up by NOK 15.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2015, and the outstanding amounts ended up at NOK 958.1 billion. This was despite the investors net sold shares for NOK 26.9 billion in total.

The total outstanding amounts of Norwegian funds at the end of fourth quarter of 2015 were 1.7 per cent higher compared to the closing of the third quarter. The share capital of the equity funds went particularly up by NOK 36.5 billion or 8.3 per cent. One of the factors behind this can be related to the increase in the total values of the shares at the Oslo Stock Exchange. Share capital of the other types of funds was lower.

Bond funds, money market funds and hybrid funds are net sold

Net sales totalled NOK 26.9 billion in the last quarter of 2015. NOK 7.8 billion of the sales were made in bond funds, NOK 7.2 billion were made in money market funds and NOK 7.0 billion were in hybrid funds.

Life insurance companies and pension funds and foreigners net sold

Highest amount of net sales belonged to life insurance companies and pension funds with NOK 17.3 billion. Life insurance companies and pension funds still own the majority of the total share capital of Norwegian mutual funds and their share is 42.3 per cent.

Foreign investors net sold as well and their net sales amounted to 6.6 billion during the fourth quarter of 2015.

Household sector net bought

The household sector net bought fund shares of NOK 2.7 billion in the last quarter of 2015, and these were mostly other bond funds and equity fund , NOK 1.6 billion and NOK 1.2 billion respectively. Households owned 14.6 per cent of the total shares of Norwegian mutual funds as of the end of 2015.
