Lower net purchases in funds

The total value of Norwegian mutual fund shares went up by NOK 8.3 billion to almost NOK 667 billion during the 2nd quarter of 2013. Net purchases of the fund shares were at NOK 1.2 billion, compared to NOK 29.1 billion in the first quarter.

The total capital of Norwegian mutual funds went up by 1.3 per cent during the second quarter of the year. Most of this increase can be attributed to the increase in the values of funds and, in particular, bond funds. The bond funds had a higher value of NOK 8.8 billion, while the value of money market funds decreased by almost the same amount; NOK 8.3 billion. Equity fund shares also went up by NOK 3.9 billion.

Net purchases of funds were much lower than the 1st quarter

Investors net purchased NOK 1.2 billion during the 2nd quarter of 2013 compared to NOK 29.1 billion in the first quarter of the year. Mutual funds and life insurance companies had the largest sums of net purchases; NOK 6.7 billion and NOK 3.4 billion respectively. Non-financial corporations net sold shares worth of NOK 5.5 billion.

Investors net bought NOK 9.5 billion worth of bond funds during the second quarter of 2013. NOK 1.3 billion worth of hybrid funds and NOK 1.2 billion worth of other funds have also been purchased. Net sales of money-market funds on the other hand were NOK 8.9 billion. NOK 2.8 billion worth of equity funds were also sold.

Life insurance companies bought bond funds mostly

The largest owners in the Norwegian mutual funds market; life insurance companies, bought a net amount of NOK 6.4 billion worth of bond funds in the first quarter of 2013. They also bought NOK 1.2 billion worth of equity funds but net sold NOK 4.1 billion worth of money-market funds during the 2nd quarter of 2013.

Lower fund shares for households

The household sector net sold mutual fund shares for about NOK 900 billion after net buying in two consecutive quarters. This sector invested NOK 700 billion in the hybrid funds, while selling a net amount of NOK 1.2 billion worth of equity funds.

Lower equity funds for foreign investors

Foreign investors net sold a total of NOK 2.3 billion worth of mutual funds during the second quarter of the year. While net selling equity funds worth NOK 3.6 billion, they net bought more than NOK 600 billion worth of other bond funds.
