Equity funds increase in value

The total value of the Norwegian mutual fund shares went up by NOK 49.2 billion to NOK 658.6 billion, which can be attributed to an increase in the value of the equity funds during the 1st quarter of 2013. Net purchases of the fund shares were NOK 29.1 billion.

The total capital of Norwegian mutual funds went up by 8.1 per cent during the first quarter of the year and this can be attributed to both the increase in the values and the net purchases of funds. The equity funds went up by NOK 32.2 billion. The value of the hybrid funds went up most by 13.0 per cent. Money market fund shares, which had a negative development during the last quarter, also went up by 7.0 per cent.

Higher net purchases of funds

Investors net purchased NOK 29.1 billion during the 1st quarter of 2013. Private non-financial incorporated enterprises and life insurance companies had the largest sums of net purchases; NOK 8.7 billion and NOK 7.9 billion respectively.

Investors net bought NOK 9.2 billion money market funds and NOK 8.8 billion worth of bond funds during the first quarter of 2013.

Life insurance companies’ investment continues

The largest owners in the Norwegian mutual funds market; life insurance companies, bought a net amount of NOK 7.9 billion worth of bond funds in the first quarter of 2013.

Households continued to net buy

After net selling for three consecutive quarters in 2012, the household sector started buying mutual fund shares for the second consecutive quarter, and these totalled NOK 1.6 billion in the 1st quarter of 2013. This sector bought mainly hybrid funds and other bond funds.

Foreign investors again choosing equity funds

Foreign investors net purchased a total of NOK 4.0 billion worth of mutual funds during the first quarter of the year. Most of the purchases were in equity funds, which totalled NOK 2.4, as in the previous quarter.
