Share of fixed-interest loans continues to fall

The share of loans with a fixed-interest rate of total loans from banks and mortgage companies to employees continued to fall in the 3rd quarter of 2014. This is the sixth successive quarter with a decline in the share of fixed interest loans.

The share of loans with a fixed-interest rate from banks and mortgage companies out of all loans to Norwegian employees fell by 0.2 percentage points to 7.5 per cent at the end of the 3rd quarter this year. A share of 69 per cent of the fixed-interest loans had a remaining fixed rate period of over 1 year; this is a decrease from 71 per cent in the previous quarter.

Changes in the statistics for fixed interest loans

From this quarter, a new table in Statbank (table 10648) based on a different source is also published, and from the first quarter of 2014 these statistics will be based only on this table. This table shows a fall in the share of fixed-rate loans of total loans from banks and mortgage companies to employees by 0.6 percentage points in the 3rd quarter this year, reaching 6.9 per cent at the end of the quarter. For loans with a mortgage, this share also fell by 0.6 percentage points, reaching 7.2 per cent at the end of the quarter.
