Increased insurance payment

Both the life and the non-life insurance industry have increased the claims incurred during the first quarter of 2007.

Life insurance companies paid NOK 16 billion in life insurance and pension benefits during the first quarter of 2007. This is an increase of NOK 8.4 billion, compared to the first quarter of 2006.

Total assets increased by NOK 29 billion since the forth quarter of 2006. This equals a 4 per cent growth, which is the same as the growth in the first quarter last year. Investments in subsidiaries and other shares, participation and primary capital certificates made up 36 per cent, while bonds made up 42 per cent of total assets. This is a reduction of 4 percentage points from the forth quarter of 2006.

Non-life insurance companies

The non-life insurance industry achieved a preliminary profit of NOK 1.1 billion in the first quarter of 2007. This is 42 per cent lower than in the first quarter of 2006. Claims incurred was NOK 8.1 billion in the first quarter of 2007, this is an increase of 16.1 per cent. Premiums increased 7 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2006.

Total assets in the non-life insurance industry increased by NOK 6 billion since the forth quarter of 2006, this is a 4 per cent growth. Compared to December 2006 investments in subsidiaries and other shares, participation and primary capital certificates increased their share of total assets by 3 per cent to 26 per cent. While bonds share made up 30 per cent of total assets, a reduction of 3 percentage points.
