Increase in employment in all counties

Between the 4th quarter of 2010 and the 4th quarter of 2011 the number of employed persons increased by 1.8 per cent. Rogaland and Akershus had the highest increase with 3.5 and 3.0 per cent respectively, while Hedmark and Telemark had the lowest increase, both with 0.2 per cent.

For the whole country, employment in the secondary industries increased by 3.0 per cent between 2010 and 2011. All counties except Aust-Agder had an increase in these industries. Oslo, Buskerud and Rogaland had the largest increase, with 7.3, 6.6 and 6.4 per cent respectively. Aust-Agder decreased by 0.6 per cent.

Within the secondary industries, mining, extraction of oil and gas and construction had the largest increase.

Increase in technical and support services

Employment in the tertiary industries increased by 1.8 per cent between 2010 and 2011. Akershus and Rogaland had the highest increase, with 3.3 and 2.8 per cent respectively, while Hedmark had the lowest increase with 0.6 per cent.

Architectural and engineering activities, employment activities and services to buildings and landscape activities had an increase of 8 per cent or more. For public services, such as government administration, education and health and social services, the increase was 1.9 per cent. Water transport decreased by 7.7 per cent.

The register-based employment statistics are published once a year. In addition to these figures there are separate statistics releases with more detailed figures for employed persons in municipal activities on 15 June, employment among short-term immigrants on 25 June and for immigrants on 21 June. Figures for health care personnel will be published on 13 June. More tables are available in StatBank.

Occupation figures in the fall

Due to a new occupational classification for occupations, figures by occupation will be released later this year.
