Increase in employment in all counties except Telemark

Between the 4th quarter of 2009 and the 4th quarter of 2010 the number of employed persons increased by 0.8 per cent1. Rogaland had the highest increase with 1.6 per cent1, while Telemark had a decrease of 0.4 per cent.

Besides Rogaland, the counties Akershus, Aust-Agder and Finnmark had the highest increase, all with a growth of more than one per cent.

Despite the growth in the number of employed persons the employment rate declined from 69.7 per cent in 2009 to 69.1 percent in 2010, due to a strong population growth among persons 15-74 years of age.

Decrease in the secondary industries

For the whole country, employment in the secondary industries decreased by 0.2 per cent between 2009 and 2010. The decrease occurred within manufacturing, while mining, extracting of oil and gas, electricity and water supply and construction had an increase.

Increase in public services

Employment in the tertiary industries increased by 1.1 per cent between 2009 and 2010. The increase occurred mainly within public services, such as government administration, education and health and social services.

The register-based employment statistics is published once a year. In addition to these figures there are separate statistics releases with more detailed figures for employed persons in municipal activities on June 15th, employment among short term immigrants on June 17th and for immigrants on June 28t h. Figures for health care personnel were published on June 9t h. More tables are available in the StatBank.
