Monthly earnings up by NOK 2 600

Full-time employees in central government had average monthly earnings exclusive overtime pay of NOK 35 400 at 1 October 2008. This is an increase of NOK 2 600 or 7.8 per cent from the corresponding period in 2007.

The percentage increase in salaries among the largest groups in the central government was relatively similar. Within administration, the group in central government with the biggest increase in employees, monthly earnings went up by 7.8 percent from 2007 to 2008. In comparison central government full-time employees in education had an increase of 7.1 percent, real estate and business activities had an increase of 8.3 percent and health and social work (exclusive health enterprises) had an increase of 7.5 percent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information for 116 111 full-time employees and 25 087 part-time employees reported to the State Central Register of Government Employees per 1 October 2008. The statistics also cover employees paid by the salary scale for leaders.

Monthly earnings are the main term in the wage statistics and include salaries according to scale and fixed and variable additional allowances. Overtime pay is not included in monthly earnings.
