Monthly earnings up NOK 900

Full-time employees in central government had average monthly earnings of NOK 27 900 per 1 October 2003. This was NOK 900 more, or an increase of 3.2 per cent from 2002.

Monthly earnings for full-time employees were about NOK 27 900 per October 2003. This was an increase of NOK 900 or 3.2 per cent from 2002. Female employees working full-time had monthly earnings of NOK 25 800, NOK 800 or 3.1 per cent more than the previous year. By comparison monthly earnings for full-time male employees were NOK 29 100. This was an increase of NOK 1 000 or 3.7 per cent.

Employees in ministries had monthly earnings of NOK 31 200, an increase of NOK 900 or 3.1 per cent from 2002. By comparison, employees in other civil services had a wage increase of NOK 700 or 2.6. per cent up to NOK 26 400. Around one third of all full-time central government employees are employed in other civil services. Here we find the police force and rural police service, the labour market administration and social insurance administration.

Part-time employees

Monthly earnings for part-time employees were about NOK 24 800 per October 2003. This was an increase of NOK 800 or 3.3 per cent from 2002. Female employees working part-time had monthly earnings of NOK 24 000, NOK 700 or 3 per cent more than the previous year. By comparison monthly earnings for part-time male employees were NOK 27 500. This was an increase of NOK 1 100 or 4.1 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on preliminary information on 126 958 employees who are reported to the State Central Register of Government Employees per 1 October 2003. The statistics also cover employees paid by the salary scale for leaders. For government enterprises there are some changes from 2002. Civil aviation administration (Avinor) is established as a joint-stock company and so are the parts that are separated from road administration and established as Mesta. Employees in Mesta and Avinor are not included in the data for 2003. Due to this fact the figures for government enterprises for 2002 and 2003 are not quite comparable.

The central government wage settlement in the spring of 2003 came to the conclusion that no wage increase should be given for 2003. However, the results from the local negotiations from September 2002, 2.0 per cent was set aside for these negotiations, were not included in the data material until 2003.
