Monthly earnings up NOK 900

Full-time central government employees had average monthly earnings of NOK 25 400 at 1 October 2001. This was NOK 900 more than at the same time the previous year, or an increase of 3.9 per cent.

Preliminary wage statistics for central government employees 2001 were published 19 April d.y. Figures for employees in health service were not available at that time. We are now presenting statistics for all full-time central government employees, commenting on the changes in wages for health service employees. For information about other services, please see the publication of 19 April in Daily Statistics.

Health services

Full-time health service employees had average monthly earnings of NOK 26 400 at 1 October 2001. This worked out to an increase of NOK 800 from the same time the previous year. Chief physicians and ward physicians had monthly earnings of NOK 46 300 and NOK 39 000 respectively. This corresponded to an increase of NOK 1 200 for both of these groups and an increase of 2.6 and 3.1 per cent respectively. In comparison, specialized nurses and professional nurses had monthly earnings of NOK 27 700 and NOK 22 800, an increase of NOK 1 000 or 3.6 per cent for specialized nurses and NOK 800 or 3.7 per cent for professional nurses. Assistant nurses had average monthly earnings of NOK 21 000, which corresponded to an increase of NOK 1 100 or 5.4 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information on 112 690 full-time employees who are reported to the State Central Register of Government Employees per 1 October 2001. The statistics also cover full-time employees paid by the salary scale for leaders. The Norwegian State Railways BA and Norwegian Postal Administration BA are not included in the statistics.

The central government wage settlement in the spring of 2001 resulted in:

- From 1 May in an annual increase of NOK 2 200 for each scale grade.

- A further 1 per cent was set aside from 1 September 2001 in the central wage adjustment negotiations.

- Effective 1 October 2001, 0.6 per cent was set aside for local negotiations.
