Monthly earnings up 3.7 per cent in transport and storage

Average monthly earnings excluding overtime pay of full-time employees in transport and storage were NOK 36 800 as per 1 October 2010. This was a year-to-year increase of NOK 1 300 or 3.7 per cent.

The section consists of various divisions, such as land transport, water transport, air transport, warehousing and support activities for transportation, and postal and courier activities. The increase in average monthly earnings varies from 1.2 per cent in air transport to 5.5 per cent in warehousing and support activities for transportation.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises covering a total of 65 293 full-time employees and 18 166 part-time employees. According to the Norwegian Central Register of Enterprises and Establishments as per October 2010, transport and storage comprises in total 131 300 employees.

The term average monthly earnings is the main term in Statistics Norway's wage statistics. Monthly earnings cover basic salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses. Payment for overtime work is not included, but is presented in the statistics separately. Basic salary for transport and storage is measured as per 1 October, while bonuses, variable additional allowances and payment for overtime work are calculated from the annual sum as a monthly average.
