5.5 per cent increase in transport

Full-time employees in transport and communication had monthly earnings of NOK 31 200 per 1 October 2006, NOK 1 600 more than the year before.

The transport sector is diverse with levels of average monthly earnings ranging from NOK 40 400 in telecommunications, to NOK 26 200 in land transport.

Annual earnings

In 2006, the estimated annual earnings of full-time employees in transport and communication was NOK 366 100, 4.9 per cent or NOK 17 200 more than in 2005. The average annual earnings of employees in air transport were NOK 467 600, an increase of 5.1 per cent and NOK 22 900 above the 2005 level. Employees in land transport had average annual earnings of NOK 309 000, constituting an increase of NOK 12 800 or 4.3 per cent.

Estimated annual earnings are calculated by use of information from wage statistics for 2005 and 2006 in addition to information from wage negotiations and the quarterly wage index. The quarterly wage index is used to distribute the increase in wages throughout the year. The estimated annual earnings figures for 2006 are preliminary until wage statistics for 2007 have been established.

About the statistics

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with 75 517 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2006 the statistics cover about 157 100 employees in transport and communication.
