Monthly earnings increased by 4.3 percent

The average monthly earnings for full-time employees in manufacturing were NOK 30 200 at 1 October 2006, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 4.3 per cent from 2005.

Total monthly earnings cover basic paid salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses, commissions etc. Overtime pay is not included in total monthly earnings. Employees in basic chemicals had average monthly earnings of NOK 35 800 while employees in textiles, wearing apparel and leather had earnings of NOK 25 600.

Occupational groups

Senior officials and managers had average monthly earnings of NOK 49 800 in 2006, an increase of NOK 2 000 or 4.1 per cent from 2005. Monthly earnings for professionals, a group that consists of graduate civil engineers and programmers among others, were NOK 41 600, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 3.5 per cent. Technicians and associate professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 35 400, an increase of NOK 1 800 or 5.3 per cent. This occupational group consists of engineers, officials within administration, technical sales representatives and journalists among others.

Average monthly earnings for operators and drivers, which is the largest occupational group in manufacturing, were NOK 25 600. This corresponds to a growth of NOK 1 100 or 4.4 per cent from 2005. Monthly earnings for craft workers were NOK 26 800, an increase of NOK 900 or 3.6 per cent.

Estimated annual earnings

At 1 October 2006, all full-time employees in manufacturing had estimated average annual earnings of NOK 355 600, an increase of approximately NOK 12 500 or 3.6 per cent from 2005. Annual earnings in manufacturing of machinery and equipment and food products, beverages and tobacco were NOK 365 200 and 318 600 respectively.

Average annual earnings are estimated using information from wage statistics for two years and the quarterly wage index. The figures are estimated for full-time employees and do not include payment for overtime work. Estimated annual earnings figures for 2006 are preliminary until the wage statistics for 2007 are in place.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises which covers a total of 136 088 full-time employees in manufacturing. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter of 2006, the statistics cover approximately 260 700 employees in manufacturing.
