Wages increased by 3,6 percent

The average monthly earnings for full-time employees in manufacturing were NOK 28 900 per 1 October 2005, an increase of NOK 1 000 or 3.6 per cent from 2004. Employees in basic chemicals had average monthly earnings of NOK 34 000 while employees in wood and wood products had earnings of NOK 24 600.

Total monthly earnings cover basic paid salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses, commissions etc. Overtime pay is not included in total monthly earnings. Average basic paid salaries for full-time employees in manufacturing amounted to NOK 27 400 while bonuses and additional allowances were NOK 1 000 and NOK 500 respectively.

Occupational groups

Senior officials and managers had average monthly earnings of NOK 47 600 in 2005, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 2,5 per cent from 2004. Monthly earnings for professionals, a group that consists of graduate civil engineers and programmers among others, were NOK 40 300, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 3,4 per cent. Technicians and associate professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 33 700, a growth of NOK 1 500 or 4,7 per cent. This occupational group consists of engineers, officials within administration, technical sales representatives and journalists among others. Monthly earnings for clerks was NOK 25 900, an increase just below NOK 900 or 3,5 per cent.

Average monthly earnings for operators and drivers, which is the largest occupational group in manufacturing, were NOK 24 500. This corresponds to a growth of NOK 600 or 2,5 per cent from 2004. Monthly earnings for craft workers were NOK 25 800, an increase of NOK 900 or 3,5 percent.

Estimated annual earnings

By 1 October 2005, all full-time employees in manufacturing had estimated average annual earnings of NOK 341 300, an increase of approximately NOK 10 000 or 3 per cent from 2004. Estimated annual earnings have increased by between NOK 4 300 for full-time employees in furniture and other manufacturing and NOK 17 100 for full-time employees in building of ships, oil platforms and moduls. Annual earnings in manufacturing of machinery and equipment and food products, beverages and tobacco increased by NOK 8 700 and 10 700 respectively.

Average annual earnings are estimated using information from wage statistics from two years and the quarterly wage index. The figures are estimated for full-time employees and do not include payment for overtime work. Estimated annual earnings for 2005 are preliminary until wage statistics for 2006 are in place.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises, which covers a total of

130 155 full-time employees in manufacturing. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for third quarter 2004, the statistics cover approximately 260 800 employees in manufacturing.
