Annual earnings increased by 5.6 per cent

The estimated annual earnings for full-time employees in manufacturing in 2002 were NOK 305 700, an increase of NOK 16 300, or 5.6 per cent compared with 2001.

The average annual earnings are estimated by information from wage statistics from at least two years and the quarterly wage index. The quarterly wage index is used to distribute the increase in wages through the year. The annual earnings measure the average earnings for a calendar year. Annual earnings do not include payment for overtime work. The estimated annual earnings for the current year are preliminary until wage statistics for the next year have been established.

There are major differences in the estimated annual earnings between divisions, as the increase in estimated annual earnings from 2001 to 2002 vary from 3.3 to 6.2 per cent.

Machinery and equipment etc and food products, beverages and tobacco

These two divisions occupy about 20 per cent of all full-time employees in manufacturing. In food products, tobacco the estimated annual earnings were NOK 274 800, while in machinery and equipments the estimated annual earnings were NOK 320 200. This was an increase of 6.1 and 6.2 per cent, respectively, from 2001.

Basic metals and basic chemicals

The estimated annual earnings for full-time employees in basic chemicals increased from NOK 342 600 in 2001 to NOK 362 100 in 2002, an increase of 5.7 per cent. Full-time employees in basic metals had an increase in the estimated annual earnings of NOK 17 200, or 5.7 per cent from 2001 to 2002.

Pulp, paper and paper products and textiles, wearing apparel, leather.

Full-time employees in textiles, wearing apparel, leather experienced had annual earnings of NOK 258 400, an increase of NOK 11 800 or 4.8 per cent from 2001. In comparison, full-time employees in pulp, paper and paper products had estimated annual earnings of NOK 292 000, an increase of NOK 11 000 or 3.9 per cent from the previous year. Full-time employees in wood and wood products experienced estimated annual earnings of NOK 260 300.

Publishing, printing, reproduction

Full-time employees in publishing, printing and reproduction experienced estimated annual earnings of NOK 337 000, an increase of NOK 10 800 or 3.3 per cent from 2001.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises covering a total of

133 767 full-time and 12 335 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter of 2002, the statistics cover approximately 284 400 employees in manufacturing.

Due to changes in the reporting system for occupations in 2002 it is not possible at the moment to publish tables on occupation for 2002.
